The monograph summarizes the literature data and the results of the author's own studies in epidemiology, diagnostics, and treatment of legionellosis and biology and ecology of legionella. Along with the characteristic of the taxonomy specifics, the intracellular parasitism of legionella, and their ability to form natural biofilms, the monograph provides data on more than 70 epidemic outbreaks of legionellosis in various countries, including Russia. The most important methodological aspects of the legionellosis infection and legionella monitoring and control in potentially dangerous water systems (cooling towers, hot water supply systems, jet tubs) and specifics of clinical performance and treatment of legionellosis are reviewed in detail.
