Microbiology scientific council for complex problem-solving

The Microbiology Scientific Council for Complex Problem-Solving operates in accordance with Orders of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences and the Ministry of Health of Russia No. 21/63 dated February 26, 2003 and No. 94/537 dated October 31, 2003, and with Resolutions of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences No. 150 dated June 17, 2009 and No. 233 of October 6, 2010. The Council was established on the basis of the former Scientific Council for Microbiology under the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Medical Science, which was established in 1976, and the Interdepartmental Scientific Council for Microbiology, which was established in 1993, and subsequently – the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Medical Science and the Ministry of Health and Social Development of Russia for Microbiology.

Areas of activity of the Scientific Council:

The main area of the Council's activities is the coordination of scientific research to protect humans against infectious diseases; study of the molecular biological and the genetic foundations of life, pathogenicity and variability of pathogens of human infectious diseases, their antigenic and immunogenic properties; relationships with the immune and cytokine systems; persistence mechanisms in bacterial pathogens; pathogen ecology of microorganisms; relationships within bacterial communities.  The Council is responsible for work on the classification of microorganisms; development of new drugs and methods for immunotherapy, immunological prophylaxis and diagnostics, including gene diagnostics of infectious diseases; immune system correction technology; microbiological monitoring of the environment; molecular genetic methods for identifying environmentally harmful products.

Problem solving committees:

The Scientific Council for Microbiology consists of four problem solving committees:

1. Medical Microbiology and Molecular Biology of Microorganisms.
