Recommended by the Academic and Methodological Association for Medical and Pharmaceutical Education of Higher Educational Establishments of Russia as a learning aid for the system of postgraduate education of doctors.
The book text consists of the general part and the special part.
The general part contains modern data on the forms of bacteria adaptation to the environment, including in the light of the understudied problem of "social" behavior of these microorganisms.

The special part contains three sections – gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and methods of diagnostics. This part provides description of the biological properties of bacteria causing human infectious diseases of certain nosological entities.

Special attention in description of the microorganisms is paid to their antigens, pathogenicity factors, and genetic control. The modern methods of microbiological diagnostics are described in detail – from classic culture-based to accelerated, including gene diagnostics.
Pathogenesis and clinical representation of the diseases are briefly described. The sources and the tanks of the agents and their paths of dissemination and ways of contamination are outlined.

Each chapter is ended with brief description of modern antibacterial therapy and prophylaxis of the infections caused by the corresponding microorganisms.
The last section provide formulations of reagents and substrates currently used for microbiological diagnostics of bacterial infections with mandatory inclusion of the methods prescribed by the corresponding regulatory documents of Rospotrebnadzor and the Ministry of Healthcare and Social Development of Russia.

The book is intended for medical microbiologists, teachers of higher educational establishments and the system, of postgraduate education for doctors.
