O.I. Kiselev, F.I. Yershov, E.G. Deyeva. Interferon-gamma: New Cytokine in Clinical Practice. INGARON. Moscow, Dimitrade Graphic Group, 2007, 348 p.

The monograph is the first publication in Russia on Ingaron – human recombinant interferon-gamma.

Interferon-gamma is a type II interferon. By its properties it is a unique cytokine. The range of its biological activity is much wider than the one of type I interferons. This is explained by the fact that interferon-gamma is the main natural cytokine providing for formation of cytotoxic immunity. Cytotoxic immunity plays the key role in protection against virus infections and elimination of cancer cells, i.e. in the autogenous immunity. This fact is exactly what makes interferon-gamma-based drugs highly efficient for treatment of virus infections and malignant neoplasms.

The key role of interferon-gamma in body protection against especially dangerous viruses is determined. Thus, the smallpox virus is first of all inactivated by interferon-gamma. This discovery resulted in development of means of protection against bioterrorism agents based on interferon-gamma.

The monograph provides a detailed description of the structure and the properties of interferon-gamma and provides the standards of treatment of infectious and oncological diseases using Ingaron.

The monograph is prepared upon the order of Pharmaclon research and production company.
