The book describes in detail the history of immunology as a science and highlights its achievements in fighting infectious diseases. It briefly and simply reviews the systems of congenital and adaptive immunity, provides the current data on immunology of infectious diseases, describes immune responses to infectious agents and the ways for microbes to avoid the immune protection factors as well as pathological immune responses caused by microbes.

Separate chapters are devoted to characteristics of modern vaccines and specifics of post-vaccinal immunity as well as the basics of laboratory diagnostics of infectious diseases.
