The monograph considers the survival mechanisms of bacteria in various ecological niches.

The resting state is shown as a way of saprophytic bacteria adaptation to changing conditions of the environment. Factual information is provided on reproductive resting forms, stationary proliferatively resting cells, and mummifying microorganisms. The problems of autoregulation of formation of resting bacteria forms, the mechanisms of anabiosis, and the ultrastructural organization of these cells are discussed.
The book describes the phenomenon of non-cultivated state of bacteria as an adaptive survival strategy of pathogenic microorganisms in the environment, the methods of discovering non-cultivated forms, their properties, and genetic control over the formation process.

Attention is paid to the survival mechanisms of pathogens in the infectious pathology conditions. Persistence of pathogenic bacteria is considered a survival strategy of the species. The materials on studying the mechanisms of bacterial pathogen survival in the infection conditions are systemized and the application aspects of microbial persistence are described.

The new data on apoptosis regulation by microbial pathogens as a process of agent survival in the infection conditions.
The book is intended for microbiologists, epidemiologists, hygienists, and ecologists. It can be useful for teachers, students, and post-gradual students specializing in medicine, biology, and ecology.
