The Atlas is drawn up in accordance with the Program on Microbiology, Virology, and Immunology for medical higher educational establishments. The book written by the team of the leading specialists of I.M Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy provides a compact and clear guidance on microorganisms of medical relevance, immunology, and allergology. It contains definitions of the diseases, description of the mechanisms of agents transmission, their properties, and diagnostics specifics. The data on microorganisms is based on the most recent classification schemes.
The original colored illustrations (photos, schemes of microorganism structures, immune response and immunological reactions), due to their informative and visual nature, improve the quality of the training process. The atlas significantly extends the opportunities of textbooks and guidance books on medical microbiology, virology, and immunology. The atlas takes into consideration the data on microorganism classification (Bergey's Manual of Systematic Bacteriology 2nd Edition 2001) and the decisions of the 7th International Congress of Virology regarding implementation of the new classification of viruses starting from 2002.
The atlas can be used for the purpose of medical education in higher educational establishments, colleges, and schools and as a guidance for doctors and laboratory specialists (the list of microorganisms and diagnostic tests is in accordance with Order No. 64 of the Ministry of Healthcare of Russia dd. February 21, 2000 (On Approval of the List of Clinical Laboratory Studies).
